About Renee

Renee was born in Malone NY, to Mark and Carol (Bryant) Snell. Growing up, Renee along with her brother Isaac, were surrounded by extended family as they moved around. Her parents settled in Colton when Renee was in 7th grade and she attended Colton-Pierrepont Central School (she was a member of the Speech and Debate Team, Lady Colts Soccer Team and many other activities.) She graduated in 1990 and then attended SUNY Canton. Renee met Roy Smith her senior year in high school and on September 24, 1994,  Renee and Roy were married at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in South Colton, NY.  They have three children. Eli, Grace and Jude.

Renee started a whole child day care with the children participating in farm activities, cooking, outdoor activities and learning the love of nature. In 2008, Renee went to work at Hermon-DeKalb Central School. With her love for children and her passion for local food, she continued at HDCS and worked part-time through a grant for ANCA (Adirondack North Country Association) as their Farm to School Coordinator, getting local food into our schools. Today, Renee works part-time for Agbotic, getting good, healthy, farm-fresh, organic greens into the schools. Renee has always believed that all children deserve the best food, everyday! It’s also important that they know how to grow it themselves too!

Today, Renee is in for a fight as she battles Metastatic Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer. The cancer has metastasized from the lungs to the vertebrae and brain. She will be traveling to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to begin treatment on December 1, 2020. The Doctors have told her to prepare for the long haul so Renee and Roy have rented a long term apartment. Renee’s positive attitude and love of life is going to see her through this. Next summer she plans on hiking the Bob Marshall Wilderness with her son Eli and invites friends and family to join.
